week two ❧ thursday
[Yo what up Magilou HERE COMES NINO... it's been almost a week since Things Happened, so while she's still got the gauze on to cover her missing eye, she seems a bit more able to move around and a bit less... you know, scarred for life.
But weird things are happening on this fine Thursday, so she's looking for Magilou in particular.
Because of course she is.
Just wandering the island--]
Miss Magilou?
Miss Magilou, are you here...?
[Help.]

Miss Magilou?
Miss Magilou, are you here...?

[. . . thankfully, Nino doesn't have to go far. Magilou is staying close to the huts this late in the evening, though its the witch's voice that Nino will hear first]
Oooooh, shut up, you old man. . . haaa.
[it seems to be coming from behind the Magilou-Lucina hut?? her words are drawled out, long and lazy, like a drunk person's]
Nobody likes being nagged by a ghost.
no subject
... Miss Magilou?
[A ghost? She doesn't see anything...]
no subject
[the mumbling stops]
Uho, do my ears deceive me once more? I thought I heard the voice of a tiny little mage calling out to me. . .
no subject
... Yes, it's me... but--
What's wrong?
no subject
Oooh, nothing. [at least she isn't slurring her words anymore, but she's kind of regarding Nino with a contemptuous look??] I can see why they'd include that old geezer in my illusions, but I"m not sure why you're here.
[. . . MAGILOU IS HAVING A PROBLEM, AND THAT PROBLEM IS THINKING THAT NINO ISN'T REAL]
no subject
... I'm here because I was worried! Everyone's acting pretty strange, and... I wanted to make sure that you're okay.
["Old geezer"...??]
no subject
Illusions.
[she says the word simply, arms folded over her chest. words whisper in her ear-- my greatest failure, I cannot understand how you turned out this way when I tried so hard to show you the path of light-- but all she does in response is shudder and ignore them]
They started rather suddenly, from what I can understand. A cruel tactic to be sure.
no subject
She's used to magic, so this doesn't really seem that farfetched to her--there's a long pause as Nino frowns, and then she reaches for both of Magilou's hands.]
Um... I'm real, Miss Magilou. I'm real and I'm not an illusion and I'm the only one here with you right now. I promise!
no subject
[. . .]
[she almost jerks back]
. . . oh.
[oh. she was supposed to be good at this]
So you are. [real, she means] My mistake! I thought I was a better at this.
[she's trying to be flippant but her words are a bit strained]
no subject
Having a rock, having an anchor...that's important, isn't it?
So she stays there, Magilou's hands in her own.]
... I think it's hard...when things are trying to make things even harder.
Is it scary...? What you're seeing, I mean.
no subject
[she had always been distant with them, no matter how much she cared]
[. . .]
[her hands are loose in Nino's grip]
Scary? Please. As though a ferocious witch like me would be scared so easily.
It's a little boring, actually.
no subject
[Nino listens, but she doesn't seem all too inclined to let go of Magilou's hands at all.]
... I guess that's good.
It's just...your face--it didn't look like you were seeing something boring at all.
no subject
[no she probably looked apathetic and dead on the inside]
Sometimes "boredom" and "annoyance" go hand in hand.
no subject
Back before he changed--back when he was hurting the most.
[SO THERE, MAGILOU.]
I know you don't want to talk about yourself very much, but... I'm worried.
no subject
[she puffs up, immediately putting on the dramatics in an attempt to keep this conversation from going somewhere way more serious]
Please, don't be! The Great Witch Magilou cannot be felled by a mere illusion!
no subject
It isn't that... I know that you can't be beaten by something like this.
But...sometimes something doesn't have to fell you to hurt you.
no subject
What I'm seeing can't hurt me anymore, kiddo.
[it's more annoying than anything. Melchior's words are like the pinprick of a needle when you're in the middle of patching up a hole in your outfit and your thread slips. there's a reason she described her illusions as "boring." she's been through this so many times before that she can recite the whole damn script from memory]
I feel like you should probably be more worried about what you'll see should these illusions affect you, too.
no subject
She's quiet for a long moment, blinking slowly--and then she nods.]
...When that happens... I'll do my best then. [To deal with whatever illusions are thrown at her.]
But I can't help but worry about you. I think--I always will. [There's just something about Magilou's devil-may-care attitude that really does worry her.]
no subject
You have way too much worry to spare if you're spending some on me, kiddo. Wouldn't you rather use it on your knife-wielding boyfriend instead?
no subject
[A lot. Jaffar needs Help.]
But that doesn't mean I can't worry about you too... I care about you too, Miss Magilou... even if you don't feel the same way, I won't stop.
I've already decided.
no subject
I really don't know what to do with you. . . how can any one person be filled with so much-- you?
[love. filled with so much love, is what she meant to say]
no subject
I... [A blink.] Huh?
I'm sorry, I don't think I understand... I'm me, right?
[???]
no subject
[is what she's saying]
Oho. I suppose that is what makes you. . . you.
no subject
[Love and the capability to love...
She supposes that might be true. That that might be her strength, after everything. She was raised by someone who tried her absolute best to quash all of that--
But it didn't work.
Maybe that's...how it's supposed to be?]
Then... I'll love you, Miss Magilou.
[Nino nods to herself quietly, expression as fierce as she can manage. It's lessened somewhat by the gauze covering one eye, and the fact that, you know, she's Nino.
But she's certain of it even so.]
Because you're my friend and my role model, and...because you're someone who doesn't understand love. So... you don't have to love me back!
But I think you deserve it. [Love, and care--Magilou absolutely deserves it.] So even if that's all I can do... I'm happy.

[help?? she wants to adopt this child and be the bad wine aunt?? help??]
no subject
I don't think time has anything to do with it.
[Okay!! So there!!]
That's just how I feel. Because... you're someone worth loving.
no subject
Nooo, that's not right! If you just tell everyone you love them, then it doesn't mean anything!
[what do you know Magilou you don't get love]
no subject
I haven't told anyone else.
[...]
Well, besides Jaffar, but that's different! I love Jaffar in a different way than I love you--but I still do.
no subject
I've been thoroughly defeated. . . the last thing I expected to acquire on murder island was some kid thinking I'm a good role model.
[she's a bad role model. Nino plz find better role models]
no subject
[BUT NOT REALLY THAT SORRY.]
no subject
[. . . is that fondness in her voice? nah you're imagining it]
no subject
Okay! I believe you.
Will you be okay?
[You know...hallucinations and shit.]
1/2
I am an evil witch, before whom all men prostrate themselves in fear!
no subject
Of course I'll be fine.
[. . . . . . . a very long pause]
Make sure you do the "I'm fine" thing too, kiddo.
[that's Magilou for, "will you be okay too, I hope you will be."]
no subject
[At least Nino seems cheery now... nothing like FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE to make things better.]
I won't let this beat me either!
[You can count on her.]
